Fun at the Park

After a long lazy Sunday, we needed to get out of the house. So, Bryan and I decided to take Elise to Huizenga park here in Zeeland. If you've never been to Huizenga park, you need to check it out! There's not only the biggest wooden play structure I've ever seen, but a big pond with ducks and bridges.

I brought along some moldy hamburger buns, which I always seem to have in my house, to feed to the ducks. Only when we got to the park, there were no ducks. While we pondered where they might have gone, along came the answer. Two HUGE swans had landed in Huizenga pond. Apparently, ducks and swans do not care to swim together, and I'm assuming that the size of swans easily won them their spot on the water.

We got to feed one of the swans for a long time. The bird had no fear and nearly walked right up onto the grass to get to the bread. Elise thought it was pretty cool, and her shouting "Bird!" didn't seem to bother our new friend at all.

We had such a nice night, and it would have been perfect if it had ended there. But, with a toddler, we all know things never go so smoothly as all that. In the end, Elise ran into the water and lost her balance, plunging right into the murky water of the Huizenga pond. Mommy was the hero and ran in to get her, soaking her shoes and pant legs in the process. (Aren't daddies the ones that are supposed to rescue??) So, we headed home for tubbies and dinner, and hope nobody gets a weird rash from the brief dip in the water.
